Waverly Hills Sanatorium is a beautiful example of early 20th century early Tudor Gothic Revival style architecture and a significant contributor to the Louisville, Ky community. It is listed on the National Historic Register and faced the threat of being torn down. During the building's existence, it became known as one of the "most haunted places on earth." The Waverly Hills Historical Society, a 501(C)3 non-profit organization, was formed to save the building and promote the education of its history, treatment, architectural significance, and impact it and tuberculosis on the local community. The WHHS now runs Tours and Investigations, organizes a Haunted House and a Christmas Laser Light show to raise funds to accomplish their goal.

We are always working on the building and grounds when we don't have events, so the grounds are not accessible without a reservation.

Our opportunities to visit are:

  • Public Tour & Investigation Season - March thru August

  • Private Overnights - Sunday thru Thursday - March thru August

  • Annual Haunted House Fund Raiser - September / October

  • Christmas Laser Light Show - November / December

  • Private Tours for groups and events of 25 or more - Call Office

Other Special Events as announced

Haunted Halloween Guided Tours

Unfortunately due to COVID-19 we have decided to cancel our annual Haunted House for the 2020 season. However, we are offering a different and safer alternative this year, Haunted Halloween Guided Tours!  We have limited spots due to the reduced number of tickets, so when you click on the link you will be taken to our ticketing partner, Eventbrite. If you don't see openings on that date it means they are sold out on that date and you will need to select a different date or time.

HALLOWEEN Paranormal Investigation / Ghost Hunt

Each year we get many requests to have an opportunity to investigate on Halloween night. Normally, we are not able to due to the Haunted House. But, not this year! Bring your ghost hunting / investigation equipment and join us for Halloween! In order to allow enough space for each person and group on each floor, we will only have 100 spots for this special 6 hour investigation. It will run after the last Haunted Tour exits the building, about 2AM until 8AM Sunday morning.

Q: Can I just see the outside of the building if I don't have a reservation or ticket?

A: No, due to construction and safety we close our gates outside of event times. You are not able to see the building from the gates. 24/7 Security is also on site and trespassing is not permitted.

Q: I have a reservation but cannot find the correct entrance or gate?

A: If you are using GPS, please ensure you are inputting the address on your ticket and not just searching for us. We have multiple gates and their purpose changes based on the event type.

Q: Can I hold my special day or event at Waverly?

A: Contact our office to see if we can work you in!

Q: I don't see enough tickets available for the event I'm interested in?

A: We only have so many spots we are able to fill. If you can only purchase 1 ticket, then that means only 1 spot remains open for that event date and time.

Q: Can I get a refund or reschedule for a different date / time?

A: No, we hold timed tickets and if you are unable to attend you must re-sell your ticket and purchase a different time.
