2021 CORONA VIRUS – COVID 19 STATEMENT
The Waverly Hills Historical Society values the health and safety of its customers, guests, staff, and volunteers. Due to concerns regarding the Corona Virus – Covid 19, the Delta variant, etc., the annual Haunted House Fundraiser will not take place in 2021.
We believe, all that visit the Waverly Hills Sanatorium deserves an experience like no other, in a safe environment. We are following guidance from federal, state, and local agencies, including the CDC and other health organizations.
Here are the steps we are taking to protect our guests, staff, and volunteers:
Cleaning commonly used areas more often. Sanitizing restrooms and restocking with supplies, including soap, paper towels, and hand sanitizer. Adding hand sanitizer to common areas. Encouraging our staff and volunteers to monitor their health and well-being Requiring our staff and volunteers to stay home if they, or someone in their household, are sick.
In all that we do, as we strive to fulfill our mission of restoring the Waverly Hills Sanatorium and educating the community of the history of Waverly, we will always be guided by our values and commitment to the safety and well being of all customers, guests, staff and volunteers. We strive to make decisions that balance the safety of our staff and volunteers with our commitments to our customers and guests.

Welcome To Waverly
Waverly Hills Sanatorium is a beautiful example of early 20th century early Tudor Gothic Revival style architecture and a significant contributor to the Louisville, Ky community. It is listed on the National Historic Register and faced the threat of being torn down. During the building’s existence, it became known as one of the “most haunted places on earth.” The Waverly Hills Historical Society, a 501(C)3 non-profit organization, was formed to save the building and promote the education of its history, treatment, architectural significance, and impact it and tuberculosis on the local community. The WHHS now runs Tours and Investigations, organizes a Haunted House and a Christmas Laser Light show to raise funds to accomplish their goal.
We are always working on the building and grounds when we don’t have events, so the grounds are not accessible without a reservation.
Our opportunities to visit are:
- Public Tour & Investigation Season – March through August
- Private Overnights – Sunday through Thursday – March through August
- Halloween Events Fundraisers Oct 1-Oct 31.
- Christmas Laser Light Show – November / December
- Private Tours for groups and events of 25 or more – Call Office
Other Special Events as announced
